Mastering of Natural Causes on Friday

If all goes well, Solstice Coil's second album, 'Natural Causes', will be mastered this Friday, finally concluding our latest musical journey. The album will be mastered at Bardo Studios, by our good friend Erez Caspi, who also lend us a hand with mixing the album (and did an excellent job, btw).

We've been through a lot in the four years that followed the release of our first album, 'A Prescription for Paper Cuts'. We've grown up, got to play some gigs abroad, learned a few valuable lessons and had to part ways with founding members of the band.

Most of the songs on the album have been appearing on the demo on our music section for nearly two years. Still, I believe you're in for a surprise. Our songwriting style has eveloved, but we've managed to stick to the more important principles we set out for ourselves with Paper Cuts. The new sound and Yatziv's drumming on the album (instead of the VST we used on the demo) really make a difference.

We're not releasing the album right away - now starts the hunt for a proper label.

Recording of Natural Causes Complete!

After a long process of writing, arranaging and recording, work on the second Solstice Coil album Natural Causes is nearly complete! Yesterday we visited the Eyal Amir Studio for the last time and recorded the very last guitar part needed for this album. The songs are already being mixed by Shai, so it won't be long before the album is ready!

Now comes the hard part: we are looking for a distribution deal of some sort. As much as we enjoy being a DIY band, there are some things we simply can't do on our own. So we turn to you, our faithful listeners: if you know anybody who knows anyone who might be connected to someone interested in distributing our high-end alternative-progressive rock, let us know!

You can also have them contact us:
Phone +972-50-7927175
E-mail: album@solstice.co.il

Anyone who helps us in this pursuit will receive a special credit on the album's booklet and a free copy of the album once it is released.

APPC 3rd Anniversary!

Happy equinox, everybody! Today marks the 3rd anniversary of the release of our debut album, A Prescription for Paper Cuts! Hard to believe it, ain't it? Also, this is the second anniversary of the launch of our music video for Deep Child, and our first European tour. AND it's also been one year... since... we last noted these events.

It's hard to believe three years have gone by. I mean, boy, time sure does fly! It's like, I've given my best years to this thing! That is, I'VE WASTED ALL MY YOUTH ON THIS OMG!!!

 Na, I'm just kidding. Maybe.

Anyway, it's been a good year. We also had our first gig with the new lineup exactly one year ago (With Yatziv Caspi and Noam Aviel), and we've also launched the new site and started our super-cool webcomic. Additionally, material for our second album is ready, and all we need now is some nice rich guys to get us a record deal. All in all, I'd say things are going pretty well.

Side note: I woke up today and saw that the clock on my computer had taken itself one hour back automatically. It was a bit odd, but I figured it being the equinox and all, maybe it somehow makes sense. Maybe it's the official international day to change to winter time (in Israel we change it according to when Yom Kippur strikes.) Then I got to work, and the same thing had happened on my PC at work! However, it did not happen with the computers of the rest of the crew! Then my sister sent me an SMS, telling me the same thing had happened on her computer too! Welcome, to the Twilight Zone...

What if...

In 1977, Marvel started creating the "What if" series, where a big toga wearing bald guy with cloudy eyes and a cape told the stories untold of, you guessed it, what if. For example, what if Spiderman wore women's underwear under his spidey suit, and one of his arch-nemeses found out and tried to blackmail him, or what if Wolverine's skeleton was engrafted with bubblegum instead of adamantium, and all sorts of other very viable scenarios that for some reason didn't actually happen.

In 2006, in an attempt to "spice things up", Marvel came up with the completely idiotic idea of a hacker who calls himself "The Watcher", who somehow manages, using the internet, to hack into an alternate dimension (that's right!) and browse through historical documents on the internet in order to satisfy his 'what if' needs.

That idea was so moronic that I just had to steal it. Googling the future, though, opens the door to a world of interestingly unreasonable opportunities and plot holes, as you will soon see on the upcoming strips.

And yes, I am aware that I just called my own idea (unoriginal as it may be) stupid, but the difference is that Marvel were actually serious about this idea. This sort of idiocy makes the choice of Sam "I have an IQ of 64 and therefore I assume my audience does too" Raimi as director of the Spiderman franchise make a lot more sense.

And yes, I am aware that this is our second (third, if you count Get Us a Record Deal) reference to Google. It's on purpose. We're hoping to catch their attention, and with any luck, they'll be so pissed they'd buy us off.
