Euthanasia

Gypsy, the dog I grew up with at my parents' house has been put to death this morning. She had a cancerous growth on her front-right shoulder for a few months, and lately it seemed that the shoulder was having a cancerous dog attached to it rather than the other way around.

While it is indeed a sad moment for me, I am also happy that modern society gives us the tools to painlessly euthanize our suffering pets. I just hope that by the time I get to the stage where I require the same services, our society would have outgrown its hypocrisy regarding human euthanasia, given that my genetic material includes alleles for Parkinson's disease, cancer, heart and lung malfunction and other fun diseases.

RIP Gypsy 1994-2008
